The Opportunity:

As a Special Educational Needs Coordinator, you will play a vital role in leading and coordinating support for students with SEND across the school. This position is central to ensuring inclusive practice and improving student outcomes in behaviour, attendance, and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic SEND policy and provision in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Monitor and review the quality of provision for students with SEND across the school.
  • Provide professional guidance and support to staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with the Equality Act, Children’s Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Liaise with external agencies, parents, and other schools to coordinate support for students with SEND.
  • Collect, analyse, and use SEND data to identify underperforming students and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records, including SEND registers, EHCPs, and IHCPs, in compliance with GDPR and data protection legislation.
  • Support transition processes for students with SEND at all stages of their education.
  • Lead and manage Teaching Assistants who support students with SEND, including CPD and appraisal processes.
  • Prepare for Ofsted inspections and ensure quality assurance through lesson observations and learning walks.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a SENDCo role or equivalent within a school setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage and analyse data effectively.
  • Experience in developing and implementing inclusive education strategies.

Preferred

  • Experience in a Catholic school or similar educational setting.
  • Familiarity with the eight essentials of Edmund Rice.
  • Experience in managing and leading Teaching Assistants.
  • Knowledge of exam access arrangements and support for students with EHCPs.
  • Experience in working with external agencies and Local Authorities.
