The Opportunity:

As a Special Educational Needs Coordinator, you will lead the development and implementation of SEND policy and support for students with special educational needs and disabilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence policy, support staff, and make a meaningful impact on student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic SEND policy and provision across the secondary phase.
  • Coordinate and manage the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and individual student support.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff, parents, and external agencies in delivering effective SEND provision.
  • Ensure compliance with SEND legislation and best practice in all aspects of the role.
  • Lead and support professional development for colleagues to enhance SEND delivery.
  • Advocate for students with social, emotional, behavioural, or learning challenges.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, respect, and student wellbeing throughout the institution.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Hold or be willing to complete the National Award for SEN Coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Organised, resilient, and solution-focused approach.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading professional development for staff.
  • Experience in a middle leadership role or aspirations for leadership development.
  • Familiarity with innovative approaches to SEND support and transition planning.
