The Opportunity:

As a Special Educational Needs Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all students with special educational needs receive the support they require. You will lead the school’s SEND provision and work closely with a dedicated team to improve inclusion and student outcomes across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the school’s SEND provision, ensuring it meets the needs of all students.
  • Lead and support a team including a deputy SENCO, Learning Support Coordinator, SEND administrator, HLTA, and Teaching Assistants.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with students, families, staff, and external agencies.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching in both small groups and mainstream classes within your subject specialism.
  • Work collaboratively with the deputy SENCO and wider staff team to ensure consistency and quality in support for students with SEN.
  • Ensure that all policies, procedures, and legal requirements related to SEND are followed and implemented effectively.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on SEN best practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions and support for students with SEN, making recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience working with students with special educational needs.
  • Experience in the role of a SENCO or qualified SENCO (or willingness to obtain the qualification with relevant experience).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality teaching in both small groups and mainstream classes.
  • Commitment to inclusion and the holistic development of students.

Preferred

  • Experience working within an academy or multi-academy trust setting.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Experience in training and supporting staff on SEN-related matters.
  • Experience with initial teacher training or early career framework programs.
