The Opportunity:

As a Special Educational Needs Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). You will work closely with the SENCo to ensure students receive the tailored support they need to thrive academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the identification, assessment, and strategic planning to meet the diverse needs of students with additional learning needs and EHCPs.
  • Arrange, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of Student Support Plans (SSPs), ensuring they remain up-to-date and impactful.
  • Manage and submit applications to the Local Authority for additional support and funding, meeting all legal deadlines.
  • Coordinate and implement appropriate Exam Access Arrangements for qualifying students.
  • Collaborate with external agencies to secure comprehensive support for students.
  • Lead and manage the team of Teaching Assistants, focusing on their professional development and effective deployment across the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a similar role within education, specifically in Special Educational Needs.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict statutory deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work sensitively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team of Teaching Assistants.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and statutory obligations related to SEND support.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and implementing Student Support Plans (SSPs).
  • Experience with Exam Access Arrangements and the EHCP process.
  • Experience working with external agencies and stakeholders.
  • Experience in a school setting that values a holistic approach to education.
