As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with autism and challenging behaviour. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with autism and challenging behaviour in a structured and nurturing environment.
  • Assist with the delivery of individual and group learning activities tailored to students' specific needs.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure consistent and effective support for students.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and behaviour, maintaining accurate records as required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and social skills through consistent and supportive interactions.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment for all students.
  • Provide one-to-one support where necessary to help students reach their academic and personal goals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant experience as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
  • A commitment to supporting students with autism, SEMH, and other complex needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviour in a school setting.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Preferred

  • Experience working with children with autism and social communication difficulties.
  • Knowledge of autism best practices and educational support strategies.
  • Previous experience within a special needs school or similar educational setting.
  • Familiarity with curriculum planning and support for students with diverse learning needs.
