The Opportunity:

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-on-one academic and community support to autistic learners, helping them develop new skills and prepare for life beyond college. This role is central to the school’s mission of creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every individual can reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support learners on a 1:1 basis, providing academic assistance and guidance.
  • Deliver personalized support tailored to individual needs and goals.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams to develop effective learning strategies.
  • Encourage independence and life skills development through structured activities and real-world experiences.
  • Monitor and report on learner progress, ensuring consistent communication with the teaching team.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes confidence and engagement.
  • Support learners in accessing community-based learning opportunities and work placements.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of learners at all times, following safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with autistic young people or individuals with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with learners.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and person-centered approaches.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to support diverse learning needs.
  • Valid DBS check or willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

Preferred

  • Experience in education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of autism and special educational needs.
  • Experience with 1:1 support or teaching roles.
  • Understanding of the Ambitious Approach to education.
  • Experience in community-based learning or work experience programs.
