The Opportunity:
Join a dedicated team as a Speech and Language Therapy Teaching Assistant to support students with communication needs. This role plays a vital part in implementing speech and language therapy programmes, ensuring students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and run communication activities for individuals and small groups with support from class teacher/SaLT
- Implement specific communication programmes devised by the SaLT
- Prepare visuals and resources for lessons and communication groups in collaboration with class teachers
- Create transition packs to support students during transitions within and outside the school
- Advocate for the communication needs of students in the classroom
- Record and document interventions and progress in the classroom
- Develop and prepare visual materials for therapy and classroom sessions
- Work under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist and class teacher
- Support less experienced colleagues by modelling best practices
- Keep detailed written records of pupil observations and interventions
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience working with students with communication difficulties
- Ability to follow and implement speech and language therapy programmes
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings
Preferred
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
- Experience with students on the autistic spectrum
- Knowledge of communication and language development
- Experience in preparing visual aids and resources for teaching
- Experience in working with multi-ethnic and diverse student populations
