Student Counsellor needed to support student well-being and academic success at a school in Germany.

The Opportunity:

As a Student Counsellor, you will provide essential social, emotional, and academic support to students aged 9 to 15. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to ensure the well-being and academic growth of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet with students and small groups to develop customized learning strategies and study skills
  • Design and deliver professional development workshops for teachers and parents
  • Support teachers in managing student behavior and addressing student concerns
  • Conduct case conferencing to support student well-being
  • Identify when to involve parents or teachers in student care and support
  • Refer students to mental health professionals when necessary
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, and parents
  • Develop a local referral network for mental health professionals
  • Collaborate with the ISR Parent Network to offer practical workshops
  • Write informative articles and materials for parents and teachers
  • Consult with the school nurse on relevant cases
  • Teach SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) sessions
  • Substitute in classrooms during teacher absences

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Hold a license as a psychotherapist, psychologist, or Child and Youth Worker
  • Have teaching experience in primary and secondary education
  • Have experience working with special needs children or as a learning strategist
  • Have training in Suicide Prevention
  • Have training or certification in approaches such as play therapy or cognitive behaviour therapy for children

Preferred

  • Postgraduate qualifications in psychology, counselling, social work, or education
  • Experience working with adolescents in therapeutic or educational settings
  • Academic and practical understanding of developmental psychology and behaviour management
