The Opportunity:

As a Student Welfare Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting student attendance, learning, and overall welfare. This is a key position within the IEN team, where you will work closely with students, families, and external agencies to ensure a positive and inclusive learning experience for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Encourage identified students to improve attendance using a range of strategies and address barriers to learning
  • Apply strategies to support students with EBSNA (Emotion Based School Non-Attendance) and improve their attendance
  • Support students with academic learning by identifying and closing knowledge gaps through collaboration with subject teachers
  • Liaise with families to discuss support needs and ensure barriers to attendance are addressed
  • Work with the wider school support teams and external agencies to ensure a collaborative approach to student support
  • Utilise strong interpersonal skills to support and challenge families effectively
  • Tackle persistent absenteeism with resilience and ensure excellent attendance across the school
  • Liaise with the IEN Team and external agencies to address attendance issues and support students on a phased return to school

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent organisation, administration, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality and sensitivity
  • Minimum GCSE level with a recognised qualification or knowledge in at least one curriculum area or SEND
  • Full UK driving license
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well to both adults and children
  • Understanding of young people and education, including working with partner agencies and support organisations

Preferred

  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language
  • Experience working with students with medical needs and as a first aider
  • Proficiency in common ICT applications, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience in a similar role within a school or educational setting
