The Opportunity:

As a Student Welfare Officer and Deputy Safeguarding Lead, you will play a vital role in supporting student welfare and safeguarding. You will work closely with families, students, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in fulfilling safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Work in partnership with families and external agencies to address barriers to learning.
  • Provide guidance and support to students and parents to help them access educational opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on student welfare and safeguarding concerns.
  • Collaborate with teaching and support staff to create a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Attend relevant training and professional development to enhance safeguarding and welfare practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student welfare and safeguarding cases.
  • Promote the school’s values and ethos through consistent and compassionate engagement with students and families.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a student welfare or safeguarding role within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with students, parents, and external agencies.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and legislation, including Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to supporting the most disadvantaged students and promoting educational equity.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or deputy role within safeguarding.
  • Familiarity with working in a multi-academy trust or similar educational structure.
  • Experience in managing student welfare cases and providing pastoral support.
  • Knowledge of child development and mental health support strategies.
