The Opportunity:

As the Subject Leader of Sociology, you will play a key role in developing and expanding the A Level Sociology provision for Years 12 and 13. This is a temporary, full-time opportunity that offers the chance to lead a subject team and drive academic excellence in a supportive and innovative school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Sociology department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies and curriculum content.
  • Support and mentor colleagues within the department to enhance student outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Work closely with the Post 16 team to strengthen and expand A Level provision.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with school-wide objectives.
  • Promote a culture of continuous professional development and staff collaboration.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination with other departments and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant experience in Sociology at Key Stage 5.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school or college setting.
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and support colleagues effectively.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and leading a subject department.
  • Familiarity with A Level Sociology curriculum and assessment requirements.
  • Experience with data analysis and student progress tracking.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching and learning strategies.
  • Experience in managing a team and driving improvement initiatives.
