Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver creative and well-structured lessons across a broad curriculum tailored to complex learning needs.
  • Adapt teaching methods to support diverse learning styles and promote independence and communication.
  • Work closely with students, families, and external professionals to meet EHCP targets and deliver meaningful outcomes.
  • Lead and support a team of teaching assistants to ensure consistent and effective classroom management.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support non-verbal students and those with sensory processing needs.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the school’s commitment to excellence in special education.
  • Promote positive behaviour and foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide a holistic approach to student care and learning.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special education, preferably in a SEN setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEN pedagogy, assessment, and progress tracking.
  • Experience working with students with complex ASD and additional needs, including non-verbal learners.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of alternative communication methods and sensory processing needs.
  • Experience with behaviour as communication strategies.
  • Background in developing individualised learning plans and supporting students with EHCPs.
  • Experience in a specialist school setting with a focus on complex needs.
