Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality English lessons that develop students’ written and verbal communication skills
  • Encourage critical thinking and analytical skills through engaging and challenging literary study
  • Foster a love of reading and a deep appreciation for literature
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and support professional development
  • Prepare and deliver schemes of work that meet the needs of a diverse and able student cohort
  • Support students in achieving academic excellence, with a focus on stretching the most able to Oxbridge level
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular and pastoral activities
  • Stay up to date with developments in English teaching and learning

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Strong academic background in English Literature or related field
  • Experience teaching English in a highly academic setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain discipline

Preferred

  • Experience with GCSE and A-level English teaching
  • Experience in external marking of examinations
  • Ability to teach History or other subjects
  • Experience with teaching English as a second language
  • Strong commitment to continuing professional development
