The Opportunity:

A Teacher of the Deaf is needed to support students with hearing needs in a mainstream setting. This role plays a vital part in ensuring students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The successful candidate will work closely with the Resource Base Manager to develop strategies that support deaf and hard of hearing students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to support deaf and hard of hearing students in mainstream classes.
  • Collaborate with the Resource Base Manager to provide specialist support and guidance to teaching and support staff.
  • Deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the needs of students with sensory and additional SEN needs.
  • Promote deaf awareness and inclusion across the school community.
  • Work with students to improve academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Support the delivery of the auditory/oral approach in the school’s curriculum.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of specialist training for staff on deaf awareness and inclusion.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Resource Base and its provision for students with EHCPs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or Trainee Teacher of the Deaf with relevant experience.
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students in a mainstream educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of auditory/oral approaches to teaching.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching and support staff across the school.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student well-being.

Preferred

  • Experience in delivering specialist training or support to staff on deaf awareness and inclusion.
  • Experience working with students with additional SEN needs.
  • Experience in a school setting with a strong focus on inclusion and diversity.
  • Familiarity with the EHCP process and support for students with sensory needs.
