Summary:
Teaching Assistant role available at a school committed to supporting students with autism and complex needs.
About the School:
The school provides specialist education for young people on the autistic spectrum, aged 8 to 19, who may also have challenging behaviour due to communication difficulties and social understanding.
The Opportunity:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students across all key stages. You will work closely with class teachers to assist students in their learning, manage behaviour, and provide individualised support. Key Responsibilities:
- Support students in their learning and help them achieve their full potential.
- Assist with the movement of students to and from college and educational visits.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive approaches.
- Build strong, positive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Provide individualised support tailored to students' specific needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Follow school policies and procedures related to behaviour management and safeguarding.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A good knowledge of autism and experience working in an SEN setting, preferably with students on the autistic spectrum.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with young people.
- Highly organised, adaptable, and proactive with a strong sense of responsibility.
- High levels of resilience, compassion, and patience.
- A full, clean driving licence for transporting students and participating in educational visits.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and/or Team Teach approaches.
- Experience in supporting students with ADHD, PDA, or co-occurring mental health needs.
- Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
