About the School:

Based in Folkestone, the school provides a specialist SEND provision for students aged 5-17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Our mission is to support students in re-igniting their love of learning through a therapeutic and inclusive approach.

The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with complex needs and helping them achieve their full potential. This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires flexibility, resilience, and a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching and learning by assisting with classroom activities and individual student needs
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to provide tailored support
  • Manage classroom resources and ensure a safe and engaging learning environment
  • Take students on educational trips and visits, ensuring their safety and participation
  • Eat lunch with students who struggle socially, building trust and relationships
  • Use strong communication and behaviour management skills to support students during heightened emotional states
  • Create and implement games and activities that enhance social skills and learning outcomes
  • Develop and maintain displays that support teaching and promote a positive learning environment
  • Celebrate student achievements and contribute to a culture of success and recognition

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good basic understanding of English and Maths
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours with patience and resilience
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection

Preferred

  • Experience in therapeutic or SEND settings
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
  • Experience with curriculum development or extra-curricular activities
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of responsibilities
