Job Description

Summary:

Teaching Assistant role at a school offering support for students with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

The school is dedicated to providing a supportive and stimulating educational environment for students with high functioning autistic spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties.

The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students across all key stages, working closely with class teachers to assist with learning, behaviour management, and individual needs. This is a vital role in helping students build confidence, independence, and life skills in a structured and positive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with their academic and personal development
  • Assist class teachers with classroom management and behaviour support
  • Build positive relationships with students and act as a role model
  • Help implement individual education plans tailored to student needs
  • Promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Provide guidance and support to students in developing life skills
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff
  • Encourage participation and teamwork among students

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to different classroom environments
  • Commitment to student welfare and safety
  • Willingness to undergo DBS and other safeguarding checks

Preferred

  • Previous experience in an educational or care setting
  • Knowledge of autism and Asperger’s Syndrome
  • Experience with behaviour management strategies
  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices
  • Passion for working with young people with additional needs
