The Opportunity:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. This role is vital in supporting students with complex needs and autism, helping them achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with complex needs and autism in a structured and caring environment.
- Assist in delivering teaching and learning activities in line with the school’s curriculum and pathways.
- Use Makaton signing and symbols to facilitate communication with students.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and other professionals to meet individual student needs.
- Promote positive behavior and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
- Maintain accurate records and report on student progress and development.
- Participate in staff training and development sessions to enhance practice.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of life skills, vocational, and sensory-based activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- NVQ3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
- Previous experience working in a specialist school or college setting.
- Experience supporting students with autism and complex learning needs.
- Familiarity with Makaton signing and symbols for communication.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
Preferred
- Experience with teaching and learning strategies for students with multiple learning difficulties.
- Knowledge of inclusive education practices.
- Experience with vocational or life skills-based teaching approaches.
- Understanding of sensory support techniques.
