Teaching Assistant role at a specialist college for autistic young people.

The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one support to autistic learners, helping them access the curriculum and develop independence and self-esteem through community-based activities. This is a full-time, permanent role that plays a vital role in empowering young people to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support learners on a 1:1 basis to access the curriculum and develop life skills.
  • Promote independence and self-esteem through community-led activities.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and other support professionals to tailor learning experiences.
  • Assist in creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor and report on learner progress and development.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with parents and carers to support learners’ individual needs.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in line with the school’s values and safeguarding policies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with autistic young people or individuals with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing situations.
  • Commitment to the school’s values and mission.
  • Valid UK work permit (no visa sponsorship available).

Preferred

  • Experience in education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of autism and person-centred approaches.
  • Experience with behaviour support strategies.
  • Previous teaching or support assistant experience.
  • Understanding of sensory needs and inclusive practices.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of £25,837 to £27,165 based on experience.
