Summary:

Teaching Assistant role at a secondary special school. Support students with moderate learning difficulties and ASD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with moderate learning difficulties and ASD in whole class, group, and one-to-one settings.
  • Assist with personal care and hygiene needs, including toileting and nappy changing.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and success.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to deliver high-quality educational experiences.
  • Monitor and support student progress, providing feedback to the teaching team.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
  • Facilitate access to learning by responding to individual needs and aspirations.
  • Contribute to the wider curriculum and enrichment activities that support student development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working in a special or mainstream education setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to support students with emotional, social, and mental health needs.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children and young people.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a busy and dynamic environment.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of SEN and experience working with students with moderate learning difficulties and ASD.
  • Experience in providing support for personal care and hygiene needs.
  • Background in teaching or education-related vocational training.
  • Understanding of the importance of cultural capital and preparation for adulthood.
