Summary:

Teaching Assistant role at a specialist school supporting autistic children and young people.

A school dedicated to providing specialist, intensive support for autistic children and young people aged 3–19, with a person-centred approach that prioritises individual needs and outcomes.

The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support autistic pupils on a 1:1 basis, helping them access the curriculum and develop independence and self-esteem. This is a meaningful role that makes a real difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support autistic pupils in accessing the curriculum through individualised learning programmes.
  • Encourage independence and self-esteem through classroom learning and community-based activities.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of educators and specialists to deliver tailored support.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Promote the school’s core values of being safe, making responsible choices, and doing your best.
  • Participate in educational trips and community activities that enhance the learning experience.
  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and external organisations to support pupils’ development and transitions.
  • Document progress and provide regular feedback to ensure consistent support and improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with autistic children or young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting the individual needs of pupils.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic and supportive environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from teachers and support staff.

Preferred

  • Experience in education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of autism-specific teaching strategies.
  • Experience with behaviour support and positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with the Ambitious Approach to education.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of £26,638 to £28,005 (paid across 52 weeks).
