Summary:

Teaching Assistant needed at a special school. Support children with complex needs.

A school dedicated to providing a personalised education for students with severe and complex needs, including learning disabilities, social and emotional challenges, and associated health or physical disabilities.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students with complex needs in a dynamic and challenging environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children through dedicated, compassionate care and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching and learning activities in a small group or one-to-one setting
  • Assist with managing classroom resources and preparing materials for lessons
  • Support students during educational trips and visits
  • Provide social and emotional support by eating lunch with students who struggle socially
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment through effective behaviour management
  • Create and implement activities that support social skills and learning
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and deliver engaging lessons
  • Participate in ongoing therapeutic training and reflective practice

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with children with complex needs and challenging behaviours
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage and de-escalate difficult situations
  • Good understanding of English and Maths
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection

Preferred

  • Experience in a special educational needs setting
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
  • Experience with therapeutic support techniques
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
