The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with learning and additional needs in a secondary special school setting. You will work closely with teachers to assist in whole class learning, small group sessions, and 1:1 support, ensuring every student receives the attention they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in delivering high-quality instruction to students with learning and additional needs.
  • Assist in managing classroom activities and behaviour, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Work with small groups or on a 1:1 basis to provide targeted support tailored to individual student needs.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents when necessary.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and other support services to develop and implement individual learning plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage student engagement and participation in lessons.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance professional development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with learning and additional needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing classroom environments.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work term time only, 30.25 hours per week.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a special educational needs setting.
  • Experience with behaviour management strategies.
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices.
  • Experience with assistive technology or learning support tools.
  • A relevant qualification in education or child development.
