The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant (SEND) to support a hearing-impaired student in Year 9. This role will involve working closely with the subject teacher and SENCO to provide 1:1 and small group support in class. The ideal candidate will be passionate about inclusion and committed to making a meaningful impact on student learning and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a hearing-impaired student in Year 9 through 1:1 and small group activities.
  • Work under the direction of the subject teacher and SENCO to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Assist in adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of the student.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and support staff to maintain a consistent approach.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Participate in school meetings and training sessions related to SEND support.
  • Monitor and report on the student's progress and development.
  • Collaborate with other staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs).

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student well-being.
  • Willingness to undergo child protection checks and DBS screening.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or supporting hearing-impaired students.
  • Knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) or experience working with deaf students.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology for hearing-impaired students.
