The Opportunity:

Join a dynamic Science department as a Trainee Physics Teacher, working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) over one year. This role offers a unique blend of practical teaching experience and structured training, with a focus on developing innovative and impactful teaching practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality Physics lessons to 16-to-19-year-old students within a well-resourced Science department.
  • Participate in one day of training per week, including general practice and subject-specific sessions.
  • Work closely with an experienced mentor to develop teaching skills and receive ongoing support.
  • Contribute to the school’s mission of inspiring students through Catholic values and a commitment to excellence.
  • Maintain a reduced teaching timetable, allowing time for professional development and training.
  • Support the school’s inclusive and multi-cultural environment, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Assist in the delivery of the school’s ‘passport to independence’ programme, including enrichment and work-related opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Commitment to train as an active and innovative Physics teacher.
  • Eligibility to pursue Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through the training course.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Physics or a related subject.
  • A passion for Physics and a desire to inspire students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or supporting students in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or similar.
  • Previous involvement in student enrichment or extracurricular activities.
  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices and multi-cultural environments.
