The Opportunity:

As a Transport Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the school’s transport services. This is a key role in ensuring the smooth movement of students and staff, with a strong emphasis on compliance, safety, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the strategic and operational delivery of transport services for all pupils and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including Section 19 permits, vehicle maintenance, and safety audits.
  • Coordinate transport planning for large-scale trips, boarding requirements, and special events.
  • Lead and develop a team of drivers, providing training and support to maintain high standards of service.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for technology partners and parents, resolving transport-related incidents promptly.
  • Monitor and manage the lifecycle of the transport fleet to ensure roadworthiness and efficiency.
  • Balance operational and financial responsibilities while providing hands-on support when needed.
  • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, including parents, colleagues, and external partners.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Full UK Driving Licence with D1 entitlement.
  • Proven experience in fleet management and staff supervision, ideally in a school or charity setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Section 19 and Driver Hours regulations.
  • Strong IT proficiency and ability to use relevant transport management systems.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make decisive, empathetic decisions.

Preferred

  • Transport Manager CPC or MiDAS Assessor qualification.
  • Experience in managing large-scale transport operations or events.
  • Leadership experience in a team environment.
