The Opportunity:

As a University Counsellor, you will guide students through the complex journey of higher education, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. This role is central to shaping the futures of young changemakers in a dynamic, international environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead students through the global higher education pathway, providing expert guidance on selection, testing and application strategies.
  • Offer bespoke coaching on financial aid and scholarship systems to ensure students have access to opportunities regardless of financial barriers.
  • Collaborate with the DP Coordinator to advise on IB course selection, aligning academic profiles with future ambitions.
  • Support non-traditional pathways, such as gap years, summer courses and entrepreneurial ventures.
  • Represent the school internationally, building partnerships with university admissions offices and engaging in high-level networking.
  • Curate and host visits from premier universities, facilitating dialogue between global recruiters and students.
  • Refine student testimonials and school profiles to enhance visibility with selective institutions.
  • Oversee the production of essential documents like transcripts and school profiles for global admissions committees.
  • Train faculty in writing impactful references and understanding international selection perspectives.
  • Act as a liaison between the school, parents and university admissions, ensuring alignment and communication.
  • Manage records and reporting for the Board of Governors and SLT, using data to refine placement success.
  • Mentor students through residential life, supervising CAS projects and participating in outdoor and service programs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Minimum of three years of experience in university counselling, with a deep understanding of the UWC mission.
  • Proven ability to inspire and empower adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
  • A strong undergraduate degree in a relevant field; postgraduate qualification in education or counselling is preferred.
  • Full professional fluency in English; additional language skills and intercultural experience are an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, international and multilingual environment.
  • Strong commitment to student well-being and the ability to build trust and provide care.

Preferred

  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) or Council of International Schools (CIS) as an examiner, workshop leader or visiting team member.
  • Proficiency with platforms like ManageBac, Maia Learning and UCAS.
