The Opportunity:
A Volunteer Counsellor is needed to support 16-19 year old students within an established counselling service. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives while gaining valuable experience and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide weekly counselling sessions to students, offering support and guidance.
- Work collaboratively with other support staff and teaching teams to ensure student well-being.
- Attend in-house supervision and ongoing professional development sessions.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all counselling sessions.
- Participate in the induction and training processes to ensure compliance with safeguarding and welfare standards.
- Engage with students from diverse backgrounds and address a wide range of issues.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of the counselling service.
- Attend regular meetings and support the implementation of best practices in student support.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Minimum of Diploma level qualification.
- Certificate of competence to counsel from a recognized training provider.
- Ability to commit to 3 hours of weekly counselling time during term time.
- Membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
- Suitable Public and Professional Liability Insurance.
Preferred
- Experience working with young people, particularly in an educational setting.
- Current enrollment in a Level 5 young person training course.
- Experience in providing support services within a school or college environment.
