The Opportunity:

A Volunteer Counsellor is needed to support 16-19 year old students within an established counselling service. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives while gaining valuable experience and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide weekly counselling sessions to students, offering support and guidance.
  • Work collaboratively with other support staff and teaching teams to ensure student well-being.
  • Attend in-house supervision and ongoing professional development sessions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all counselling sessions.
  • Participate in the induction and training processes to ensure compliance with safeguarding and welfare standards.
  • Engage with students from diverse backgrounds and address a wide range of issues.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the counselling service.
  • Attend regular meetings and support the implementation of best practices in student support.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Minimum of Diploma level qualification.
  • Certificate of competence to counsel from a recognized training provider.
  • Ability to commit to 3 hours of weekly counselling time during term time.
  • Membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • Suitable Public and Professional Liability Insurance.

Preferred

  • Experience working with young people, particularly in an educational setting.
  • Current enrollment in a Level 5 young person training course.
  • Experience in providing support services within a school or college environment.
