The Opportunity:

As an Assistant House Parent, you will play a vital role in supporting the well-being and development of students within a vibrant boarding community. This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about pastoral care and committed to making a positive impact on young people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support houseparents in promoting welfare, safety, and a positive living environment for students.
  • Plan and lead engaging activities for boarding students to enhance their experience and foster community.
  • Provide care and supervision during overnight shifts, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members to maintain a consistent and supportive approach.
  • Assist in the management of house duties, including room inspections, meal times, and discipline procedures.
  • Be available for weekend cover and work flexible hours, including evenings and early mornings.
  • Monitor and support the emotional and social development of students in the house.
  • Uphold the school’s values and standards in all interactions with students and colleagues.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Previous experience of working with children is essential.
  • A caring, empathetic, and approachable personality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Flexibility to live either on-site or off-site, with availability for overnight stays in the boarding house.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or residential care setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and pastoral care practices.
  • Experience with boarding school operations or student welfare programs.
  • A background in education or youth work.
  • Ability to lead and organize social and recreational activities for students.
