The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Housemaster / Housemistress, you will be a key figure in the daily life of the boarding house, ensuring a safe, happy, and purposeful environment for students. Your role will involve providing pastoral support, managing house routines, and contributing to the overall wellbeing of pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Housemaster / Housemistress in managing the day-to-day running of the boarding house
  • Provide pastoral care and support to pupils, helping them settle and thrive in the school community
  • Liaise with parents, tutors, matrons, and health centre staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student welfare
  • Assist in organizing and managing house events, evenings, weekends, and key transitions
  • Promote positive habits around study, wellbeing, and relationships among pupils
  • Respond effectively to welfare and safeguarding concerns
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate clearly with all stakeholders
  • Support academic and personal development of pupils as a House Tutor

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in pastoral care within a boarding, residential, or school setting
  • Understanding of safeguarding and pupil welfare practices
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with young people and support their development
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Resilience and the ability to work under pressure in a busy environment

Preferred

  • Experience as a tutor, mentor, or pastoral practitioner
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience in academic tutoring or student development
  • Familiarity with boarding school routines and culture
