The Opportunity:
As a Sports Turf Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining the school’s extensive sports facilities, ensuring they remain safe, functional, and of the highest standard. This is a hands-on role that directly impacts the quality of sporting experiences for students and staff across a wide range of activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage 56 acres of playing fields and sports facilities, ensuring they are safe and visually appealing.
- Perform routine tasks such as mowing, fertilising, aerating, and irrigating turf surfaces.
- Repair and maintain both natural and artificial pitches and courts.
- Operate a variety of machinery and equipment used in sports grounds maintenance.
- Manage and maintain all sports-related equipment and tools.
- Liaise with staff to support the efficient use of sports facilities.
- Complete scheduled maintenance tasks and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Monitor and control weed growth and implement appropriate turf care practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in sports grounds maintenance, including pitch marking and turf care.
- Ability to operate a range of machinery and equipment used in turf maintenance.
- Full, clean driving licence to operate vehicles on the school estate.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
Preferred
- Relevant qualifications such as PA1, PA2, or PA6 spraying certificates.
- NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf or equivalent experience.
- Experience in managing large-scale sports facilities or similar environments.
- Knowledge of modern turf maintenance techniques and best practices.
