The Opportunity:

As a Sports Turf Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining the school’s extensive sports facilities, ensuring they remain safe, functional, and of the highest standard. This is a hands-on role that directly impacts the quality of sporting experiences for students and staff across a wide range of activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage 56 acres of playing fields and sports facilities, ensuring they are safe and visually appealing.
  • Perform routine tasks such as mowing, fertilising, aerating, and irrigating turf surfaces.
  • Repair and maintain both natural and artificial pitches and courts.
  • Operate a variety of machinery and equipment used in sports grounds maintenance.
  • Manage and maintain all sports-related equipment and tools.
  • Liaise with staff to support the efficient use of sports facilities.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance tasks and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Monitor and control weed growth and implement appropriate turf care practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in sports grounds maintenance, including pitch marking and turf care.
  • Ability to operate a range of machinery and equipment used in turf maintenance.
  • Full, clean driving licence to operate vehicles on the school estate.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.

Preferred

  • Relevant qualifications such as PA1, PA2, or PA6 spraying certificates.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in managing large-scale sports facilities or similar environments.
  • Knowledge of modern turf maintenance techniques and best practices.
