The Opportunity:

As the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and mental health of students in the Primary School. This position requires a proactive approach to safeguarding, with a focus on early intervention, support, and collaboration with external agencies. The role is essential to maintaining a secure and nurturing environment for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead in managing safeguarding cases and ensuring timely, appropriate interventions.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all child protection concerns within the Primary School.
  • Liaise with external agencies to secure support and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all safeguarding activities in line with school policies and data protection regulations.
  • Assist in overseeing and maintaining the register of welfare cases, ensuring all information is up to date and monitored.
  • Escalate complex or high-risk concerns to the DSL in accordance with school procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of safeguarding policies and practices across the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A teaching degree or post-graduate diploma (B.Ed, M.Ed, PGCE or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in safeguarding and child welfare within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with students, staff, and external agencies.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Familiarity with statutory safeguarding procedures and data protection regulations.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school environment with a diverse student population.
  • Previous experience as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and international educational frameworks.
  • Experience in providing guidance and training to staff on safeguarding matters.
