The Opportunity:
As a Deputy Head Groundsman, you will play a vital role in maintaining and developing the school’s extensive grounds and facilities. This includes managing sports pitches, golf greens, and amenity areas to a high standard, ensuring the site remains a model of excellence in groundskeeping and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the school’s sports and amenity areas, including nine grass pitches, two artificial pitches, and golf greens.
- Oversee the work of the grounds and maintenance teams to ensure all areas are kept to the highest standard.
- Develop and implement strategies for the ongoing improvement and development of the grounds.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure the needs of the school community are met.
- Monitor and manage the use of all facilities, ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
- Maintain detailed records of all grounds-related activities and maintenance schedules.
- Liaise with external contractors and suppliers as required.
- Ensure all grounds and facilities are prepared for school events and competitions.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in grounds management, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of turf management, horticulture, and sports pitch maintenance.
- Ability to manage large areas of land and multiple facilities simultaneously.
- Experience with the use of grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
Preferred
- Experience working in a school or college environment.
- Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices in grounds management.
- Previous experience in managing a team of grounds staff.
- Familiarity with sports pitch construction and renovation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
