Deputy Head Groundsman required at a leading institution. Manage and maintain school grounds and facilities.

The Opportunity:

As a Deputy Head Groundsman, you will play a vital role in maintaining and developing the school’s extensive grounds and facilities. This includes managing sports pitches, golf greens, and amenity areas to a high standard, ensuring the site remains a model of excellence in groundskeeping and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the school’s sports and amenity areas, including nine grass pitches, two artificial pitches, and golf greens.
  • Oversee the work of the grounds and maintenance teams to ensure all areas are kept to the highest standard.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the ongoing improvement and development of the grounds.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure the needs of the school community are met.
  • Monitor and manage the use of all facilities, ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of all grounds-related activities and maintenance schedules.
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers as required.
  • Ensure all grounds and facilities are prepared for school events and competitions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in grounds management, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of turf management, horticulture, and sports pitch maintenance.
  • Ability to manage large areas of land and multiple facilities simultaneously.
  • Experience with the use of grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a school or college environment.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices in grounds management.
  • Previous experience in managing a team of grounds staff.
  • Familiarity with sports pitch construction and renovation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
