The Opportunity:
As an EAL Teacher - Junior School, you will support students for whom English is an Additional Language, helping them access the curriculum and thrive academically and personally. This role is ideal for someone passionate about inclusive education and language development in an international setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver and assess effective EAL lessons for Junior School students using a range of teaching strategies.
- Provide targeted support through small-group withdrawal sessions, in-class support and co-teaching.
- Assess students’ English language proficiency and maintain accurate records of progress.
- Develop individual EAL learner profiles with next steps, targets and recommended strategies.
- Support academic language development across listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- Promote consistent use of English as the shared language of learning while valuing students’ home languages.
- Contribute to inclusive education provision and support students with overlapping needs such as SEND.
- Work closely with academic staff to ensure EAL learners can access the curriculum alongside their peers.
- Support students’ social integration, confidence and wellbeing in a multicultural environment.
- Collaborate with the Head of Inclusion to promote inclusive, language-aware teaching practices.
- Support professional development for staff and contribute to transition processes as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (education-related preferred).
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or international equivalent).
- EAL/ESL qualification (e.g. TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, DELTA) or strong evidence of relevant experience.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
Preferred
- Experience teaching EAL learners in a primary or junior school setting.
- Experience working in an international or multilingual school environment.
- Knowledge of inclusive education practices and language-support strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Competence in using digital tools to support teaching and assessment.
