The Opportunity:

As a Food Technology Teacher, you will lead innovative, hands-on learning that empowers students with SEMH needs. You will design and deliver a curriculum that combines practical cookery, nutrition, and enterprise opportunities. This role offers the chance to make a real impact through meaningful, skills-based education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.
  • Develop enterprise-led initiatives such as student-run catering projects and community food events.
  • Collaborate with pastoral teams to ensure a therapeutic and personalised learning experience.
  • Build positive, consistent relationships with students to foster trust and engagement.
  • Support students in developing confidence, independence, and employability skills.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and integrate them into the curriculum.
  • Work flexibly within a 4-day working week model.
  • Ensure a safe, structured, and aspirational learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status or strong vocational/industry experience in catering, hospitality, or food production.
  • Passion for practical, skills-based learning and alternative pathways.
  • Ability to work with students with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to creating a safe and supportive learning environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing enterprise initiatives within an educational setting.
  • Background in teaching or training within a specialist education environment.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, health awareness, and employability pathways.
  • Experience with curriculum development and delivery in a school setting.
