The Opportunity:

The Head of Art & Design will lead the Art & Design Department, shaping a forward-thinking curriculum that fosters creativity, innovation, and technical excellence. This role is ideal for an inspiring leader who wants to influence student achievement and teacher development across a range of disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive Art & Design curriculum aligned with international standards and best practices.
  • Integrate fine art, design thinking, resistant materials, graphic products, and digital design into teaching and learning.
  • Lead and mentor teachers in delivering high-quality instruction in Art, Design, and Technology.
  • Promote creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving in students through studio work, technical drawing, and design projects.
  • Guide students in developing strong portfolios for IGCSE and further studies.
  • Organize exhibitions, competitions, and showcases to celebrate student work.
  • Oversee art studios, D&T workshops, and digital design facilities to ensure safe and effective use of equipment.
  • Manage departmental budgets and procurement processes.
  • Build partnerships with artists, designers, and creative industry professionals.
  • Contribute to school leadership and strategic planning initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Art & Design or related field with a postgraduate teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience in teaching Design & Technology, particularly in Resistant Materials and Graphic Products.
  • Strong ability to integrate design thinking into curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Experience in delivering Technical Drawing skills across key stages.
  • Ability to mentor and support teaching staff in Art & Design and D&T.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE.
  • A Master’s degree in Art, Design, or Education.
  • Experience with student portfolio development and assessment.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies in art and design education.
