The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of English (Upper School) to lead and inspire the academic team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement departmental strategies aligned with the school’s academic vision.
  • Collaborate with the academic team to support curriculum development and student achievement.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and growth.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for English teachers and support staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring alignment with international assessment standards.
  • Represent the school at internal and external events, promoting its educational values and mission.
  • Stay up to date with best practices in English education and integrate innovative teaching methods.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching and leadership within a British-style international school.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and developing a departmental team.
  • Strong understanding of international curricula, including IGCSE and A Level.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with departmental planning and reporting.
  • Familiarity with using information and communication technology in teaching and learning.
  • Interest in and willingness to engage with Chinese contemporary culture.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
