The Opportunity:

As the Head of German, you will provide academic leadership and ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning in German. This role is a key driver in shaping the curriculum and fostering excellence in the subject, with the potential to influence the broader school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the German curriculum to ensure it meets the highest standards of teaching and learning.
  • Support and mentor teachers within the department to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support to improve learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to language learning.
  • Implement and oversee the delivery of German at all key stages, including GCSE and IBDP.
  • Promote the school’s mission and values, including academic excellence and character development.
  • Participate in professional development initiatives and contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching practices.
  • Work closely with students, parents, and colleagues to build a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience teaching German up to post-16 level.
  • Strong knowledge of the English National Curriculum (KS3 and GCSE) and the IBDP framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a department effectively.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission of academic excellence and character development.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with Ed Tech tools and innovative teaching methods.
  • Leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience with student welfare and pastoral care initiatives.
