The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Head of History Department to lead and develop a dynamic and intellectually ambitious History curriculum across Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level and IB. This role offers the chance to shape the future of History education at a forward-thinking institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the History department.
  • Inspire and develop colleagues through a culture of collaboration and professional growth.
  • Drive outstanding teaching and learning, ensuring high standards and intellectual challenge for all students.
  • Oversee curriculum development across Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level and IB.
  • Promote History as a vibrant and academically rigorous subject within the school.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of IB History in the Sixth Form, with training provided as required.
  • Support the school’s values and vision through teaching and leadership practices.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students and staff alike.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a department and delivering high-quality History education.
  • Strong subject knowledge and experience across Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level and IB.
  • Excellent teaching and leadership skills with a commitment to academic excellence.
  • Ability to inspire and develop colleagues through collaboration and reflection.
  • A willingness to teach IB History in the Sixth Form.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching IB History.
  • Background in a Quaker or values-based educational setting.
  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
  • Strong record of student achievement and examination outcomes.
