The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a dynamic and inspiring Head of Modern Foreign Languages to lead the department and drive excellence in teaching and learning. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the strategic direction of MFL and expand the curriculum to include A Level French and GCSE Spanish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Modern Foreign Languages department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Expand the curriculum by introducing A Level French and GCSE Spanish.
  • Drive standards in teaching and learning using data, assessment, and interventions.
  • Line manage and develop colleagues through performance management and professional development.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, pastoral teams, and the SENCO to ensure provision meets the needs of all learners.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage departmental resources and maintain strong links with partner primary schools.
  • Support the school’s vision of inclusion, progression, and excellence in all aspects of education.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong track record of achieving high GCSE outcomes in Modern Foreign Languages.
  • Extensive secondary teaching experience, preferably in MFL.
  • Proven middle leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to engage students and empower colleagues.
  • Experience in curriculum development and strategic planning.

Preferred

  • Experience with A Level teaching in Modern Foreign Languages.
  • Experience with GCSE Spanish teaching.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust.
  • Experience in leading departmental improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in safeguarding and student welfare.
