The Opportunity:

The Head of Physical Education will lead the academic PE programme, ensuring high-quality teaching, effective assessment, and excellent pupil progress. This role is ideal for an academically driven and strategic leader who is passionate about delivering outstanding outcomes in Physical Education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the AQA GCSE and A-level Physical Education programmes.
  • Ensure high standards of teaching and learning across the department.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Sport to align Academic PE with the wider PE curriculum and sports provision.
  • Develop and deliver academic PE in 1st – 4th Form, ensuring smooth progression from Years 3–13.
  • Support the Preparatory School in securing consistent educational outcomes and progression.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, innovation, and student engagement within the department.
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s sporting and academic ethos.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A university degree in Sport or a related field.
  • A PGCE with Qualified Teacher status (or equivalent).
  • Proven leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of AQA GCSE and A-level Physical Education curricula.
  • Experience in developing and delivering academic PE programmes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing and leading a department or team.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Familiarity with the Preparatory School environment and progression pathways.
  • Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes and engagement.
  • Experience with safeguarding and child protection policies.
