The Opportunity:

As a Humanities Subject Leader, you will lead and innovate within a dynamic IB World School environment, shaping the future of teaching and learning. You will drive curriculum development, support staff growth, and contribute to a culture of high expectations and student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example as an active teacher, modelling high-quality pedagogical practices.
  • Set and maintain high standards for student support and classroom management across the department.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment for your team.
  • Provide curriculum oversight and ensure alignment with MYP, CP, and DP frameworks.
  • Represent the department in cross-departmental initiatives and meetings.
  • Support professional development through coaching and targeted continuous learning opportunities.
  • Conduct classroom visits to ensure quality assurance and celebrate best practices.
  • Manage resources and ensure compliance with IB administrative requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A Master’s degree in Humanities, Geography, or History, with experience in curriculum design and inquiry-based teaching.
  • A fully recognised teaching qualification meeting Dutch Education Authority (DUO) standards.
  • Experience in strategic leadership of curriculum development and review.
  • Extensive knowledge of IB World School standards and experience teaching in MYP and DP frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead and support large, diverse teaching teams.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with all stakeholders.
  • Commitment to promoting a positive work-life balance for self and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience in coaching educators to enhance teaching practices and support professional growth.
  • Experience in developing student-led CAS and Service as Action initiatives.
  • Involvement in professional learning communities such as the IB Educator Network.
  • Experience teaching Global Politics and/or Psychology.
  • Ability to work in The Netherlands, with the right to work in the European Union.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • 12-month temporary appointment with a view to a permanent contract.
  • Full-time position based on 40 hours per week (1.0FTE).
