The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate Pastoral Support Officer to join our team and make a meaningful impact on student wellbeing, behaviour, and safeguarding. This role is essential in ensuring students feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive in a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs through targeted pastoral care.
  • Lead safeguarding and child protection efforts within the year group.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Year and external agencies to ensure student safety and wellbeing.
  • Manage behaviour issues and provide on-call support as required.
  • Track and monitor student progress using systems such as CPOMS and SIMS.
  • Contribute to Early Help Plans and attend multi-agency meetings.
  • Support student transitions and key developmental stages.
  • Maintain strong, positive relationships with students, families, and external professionals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • GCSE qualifications (Grade C / 4 or above) in English and Mathematics.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and experience working with students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Experience working directly with children and young people, preferably in a secondary school setting.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with families and external professionals.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people and removing barriers to learning.

Preferred

  • Experience with pastoral systems such as CPOMS and SIMS.
  • Experience in behaviour management and multi-agency collaboration.
  • Background in early help planning and child protection.
