Job Description

Summary:

School Chaplain needed to lead spiritual development and promote Christian values in line with the Queen Mary’s and Woodard ethos.

The Opportunity:

As a School Chaplain, you will play a central role in promoting Christian values and leading the spiritual development of pupils and staff. This is a unique opportunity to inspire and motivate the school community while working within a strong Christian ethos and a supportive pastoral team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure regular worship, including weekly Holy Communion, is accessible to all pupils and staff.
  • Lead by example, inspiring pupils, staff, governors, parents, and the wider community through Christian values and practice.
  • Teach and practise the Christian faith in line with the Church of England and the Queen Mary’s and Woodard ethos.
  • Guide the school community in exploring the spiritual dimension of human experience.
  • Pray for the people and life of the school, fostering a sense of unity and purpose.
  • Contribute to and promote the ideals of Christian service across the school, reviewing and adapting strategies as needed.
  • Teach Religious Studies or another subject, if appropriate, and deliver confirmation classes for Year 6 and above.
  • Provide co-curricular activities that enrich the curriculum and support spiritual development.
  • Communicate the gospel and Bible teachings in Chapel and throughout the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Be a Priest of the Church of England or of a Church in full communion with it.
  • Hold (or be eligible to hold) the Archbishop of York’s licence or Permission to Officiate.
  • Commitment to promoting Christian values and the Queen Mary’s and Woodard ethos.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to engage with students, staff, and the wider school community.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or pastoral care within an educational setting.
  • Experience with confirmation classes or religious education.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development and co-curricular activities.
  • Experience working within a school with a strong Christian ethos.
