The Opportunity:
As a Second in Department for Social Sciences, you will lead and inspire a high-performing team, contributing to the continued success of a department with consistently excellent outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to take on a TLR responsibility and make a meaningful impact on student achievement at both KS4 and KS5.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the Social Sciences department in delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
- Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of Criminology, Psychology, and Sociology across KS4 and KS5.
- Work closely with departmental colleagues to ensure consistent standards and continuous improvement in student outcomes.
- Support the development of staff through mentoring and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to the school’s wider vision by promoting the values of Aim High, Be Determined, Be Kind, Be Proud, and Be Supportive.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the department, including monitoring student progress and ensuring effective use of resources.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to shape curriculum development and improve departmental performance.
- Ensure the department remains at the forefront of teaching practice and innovation in Social Sciences.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in Social Sciences at KS4 and KS5.
- Proven track record of delivering outstanding results in Post 16 education.
- Experience teaching Criminology (KS5) and either Psychology (KS5) and/or Sociology (KS4 and KS5).
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to take on a TLR responsibility.
- Commitment to evidence-informed practice and high standards of teaching and learning.
Preferred
- Experience in a leadership role, such as Second in Department or TLR position.
- Experience with curriculum development and staff mentoring.
- Knowledge of innovative teaching strategies and assessment methods.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
