The Opportunity:

As an SEN and ESL Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and English as a Second Language learners. You will deliver targeted interventions, create inclusive learning environments, and help students achieve academic success and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver differentiated lessons and targeted interventions for pupils with diverse SEND profiles and varying stages of English language proficiency.
  • Plan and implement learning programmes that support academic progress, language development, and emotional regulation.
  • Implement structured routines, behaviour-support strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
  • Adapt curriculum content and learning materials to ensure accessibility and engagement for all learners.
  • Coordinate with SEN/EAL teams and pastoral staff to support student progress and well-being.
  • Use assessment data to inform personalised learning plans and track outcomes for SEN and ESL learners.
  • Communicate effectively with pupils, parents/carers, teachers, and external professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and English as a Second Language (ESL) learners in a secondary school setting across KS3 and KS4.
  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures, inclusive teaching strategies, and effective ESL methodologies.
  • Skilled in planning and delivering learning programmes that promote academic progress and language development.
  • Competent in implementing structured routines, behaviour-support strategies, and effective classroom management.
  • Proficient in adapting curriculum content and learning materials to remove barriers and ensure accessibility and engagement for all learners.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, including lesson planning, assessment, progress monitoring, and coordination with SEN/EAL teams and pastoral staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working effectively with pupils, parents/carers, teachers, and external professionals.

Preferred

  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language.
  • Experience working with families with varied English proficiency.
  • Experience in creating and implementing personalised learning plans based on assessment data.
