The Opportunity:

As a University Guidance Counsellor, you will provide expert guidance and support to students in their higher education journey. This role is pivotal in helping students achieve their academic goals and navigate the complexities of university admissions, particularly for those applying to institutions outside the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and support students in their applications to higher education, with a focus on Forms 4, 5, and 6.
  • Maintain the Common Application portal and other university admissions systems outside the UK.
  • Deliver workshops to students and parents on higher education options and post-16 pathways.
  • Provide feedback and guidance on personal statements and application essays.
  • Coordinate interview practice and feedback for students invited for interviews.
  • Write high-quality references and recommendation letters in collaboration with the Director of Sixth Form.
  • Manage university visits, fairs, and build relationships with external providers and institutions.
  • Act as a Sixth Form Tutor, delivering PSHEE and supporting students in their applications.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent working knowledge of US application systems and the Common App.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience in providing guidance and support to students in higher education.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Preferred

  • Experience with international university admissions processes.
  • Background in teaching or student support roles.
  • Familiarity with British-style boarding school environments.
  • Strong ICT literacy and experience with educational software.
