The Opportunity:

As an Art Therapist, you will play a key role in delivering creative and therapeutic support to young people with autism and sensory processing disorders. This is a strategic position that requires you to assess, deliver, and review therapeutic interventions, while also sharing best practices with the wider team. You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure each student receives individualized care and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver creative and therapeutic interventions tailored to the needs of young people with autism and sensory processing disorders.
  • Assess, review, and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic provision to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and other professionals to provide holistic support.
  • Disseminate best practices and deliver training to colleagues on art therapy and sensory integration techniques.
  • Develop and implement creative treatment approaches that align with sensory integration theory and clinical observations.
  • Work closely with the Therapy Manager to ensure all therapeutic goals are met and documented.
  • Support students in developing self-confidence, self-reliance, and emotional regulation through art-based activities.
  • Stay up to date with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and take advantage of internal and external training opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • HCPC registered Art Therapist.
  • Experience working with young people with complex needs, including autism and sensory processing disorders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of sensory integration theory in assessment, treatment, and clinical observations.
  • Ability to deliver creative and dynamic treatment approaches tailored to individual needs.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team and providing support to students in a specialist education setting.

Preferred

  • Experience in a special needs environment or with young people who have previously experienced a 'cycle of failure'.
  • Knowledge of the Thrive Approach or similar therapeutic frameworks.
  • Experience in delivering training or professional development sessions to colleagues.
  • Experience with mindfulness or creative interventions in therapeutic settings.
