The Opportunity:
As a Counsellor - Sixth Form, you will play a vital role in supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of students in the Sixth Form. This is a dynamic and impactful position that involves providing one-to-one counselling, contributing to the pastoral care of students, and working closely with the wider Sixth Form team to create a nurturing and ambitious learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one counselling support to Sixth Form students, ensuring their emotional and mental well-being is prioritised.
- Collaborate with the wider Sixth Form team to deliver effective pastoral care and well-being support.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that supports student development and academic success.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote mental health awareness and resilience among students.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to student support and interventions.
- Support students during key transition periods, such as exams and post-18 planning.
- Work closely with other pastoral staff and external professionals to ensure holistic student support.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A recognised counselling qualification and registration with a professional body such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or equivalent.
- Experience in providing one-to-one counselling support to young people.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work within a busy, dynamic environment.
Preferred
- Experience working in a school or educational setting.
- Knowledge of pastoral care and student well-being strategies.
- Experience with supporting students through academic and personal challenges.
- Familiarity with the UK education system and Sixth Form progression pathways.
