The Opportunity:

As a Counsellor - Sixth Form, you will play a vital role in supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of students in the Sixth Form. This is a dynamic and impactful position that involves providing one-to-one counselling, contributing to the pastoral care of students, and working closely with the wider Sixth Form team to create a nurturing and ambitious learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one counselling support to Sixth Form students, ensuring their emotional and mental well-being is prioritised.
  • Collaborate with the wider Sixth Form team to deliver effective pastoral care and well-being support.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that supports student development and academic success.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote mental health awareness and resilience among students.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to student support and interventions.
  • Support students during key transition periods, such as exams and post-18 planning.
  • Work closely with other pastoral staff and external professionals to ensure holistic student support.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A recognised counselling qualification and registration with a professional body such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or equivalent.
  • Experience in providing one-to-one counselling support to young people.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work within a busy, dynamic environment.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of pastoral care and student well-being strategies.
  • Experience with supporting students through academic and personal challenges.
  • Familiarity with the UK education system and Sixth Form progression pathways.
