The Opportunity:

As the Deputy Head of Department - Apprenticeship Construction, you will lead and shape the delivery of high-quality apprenticeship provision, ensuring it remains central to the school's curriculum. This role offers the chance to drive innovation, support outstanding learner outcomes, and contribute to the school’s vision of excellence in education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the operational delivery of apprenticeship provision across the school.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Principal and College Leadership Team to achieve departmental KPIs and strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement a robust curriculum plan that meets the needs of apprentices and local, regional, and national skills priorities.
  • Support the delivery of the school’s strategic aims, including responses to the climate emergency, digital transformation, and equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to curriculum teams, fostering a culture of excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Promote and champion best practices in pedagogical approaches and learner support.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration across the college, working with leaders and managers from different areas.
  • Drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably within apprenticeships or construction-related fields.
  • Strong understanding of apprenticeship frameworks and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop staff and teams.
  • Experience in managing budgets and delivering against KPIs.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leaders.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing large-scale apprenticeship programs.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends in construction and education.
  • Experience with digital transformation and innovative teaching methods.
  • Background in addressing the challenges of the climate emergency within education.
  • Experience in working with employers and industry partners to align training with workforce needs.
